Kappil Beach which is 8 km north of Varkala is a stunning beach in Kerala, God's own country. Kappil Beach is blessed with natural beauty and a lovely beach. Kappil Beach is very clean, moderately shallow and attracts many tourists as it provides them with opportunities of swimming and sunbathing.
Varkala, a calm anquiet hamlet, lies on the outskirt of Trivandrum district. It has several places of tourist interests like a beautiful beach, a 2000-year-old Vishnu Temple and the ashramam - Sivagiri Mutt a little distance from the beach.
Ponnumthuruthu Island is known for its pleasant atmosphere and water boat rides. Surrounded by Anjengo backwaters and Arabian Sea, the island is famous for housing an ancient shrine of Lord Shiva and Parvati, constructed around 100 years ago.
Sivagiri is the headquarters of the Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham Trust. The ashram is devoted to Sree Narayana Guru (1855-1928), whose followers, the Ezhavas form a large group of Kerala population. Guru preached the doctrine, 'one caste, one religion, one god for humanity' and attracted a large following among the lower castes.
Anjengo Fort, one of the prime attractions of Varkala, is a testimonial to many historic events and links related to the colonial rule in the region. Situated in the vicinity of Varkala town, the fort is believed to have been constructed between the 17th to 18th centuries.
